The first day of the 2026-27 school year is Tuesday 8 September 2026.
You will receive your class assignment / teacher's name by email at the end of the week before school starts.
Check the daily schedule for arrival, recess, lunch, and dismissal times. If you arrive later than the bell at 9:15, you must bring your child to the Main Office at Door 2. Other doors will be locked.
If arriving by car: There is a 10 min parking zone along Maple Boulevard, conveniently located near the kindergarten yard (see below). There is street parking available along Dwight Avenue and the north side of Birmingham Street. The school parking lot is off-limits to parents. There is no parking along Second Street from 8:00am to 5:00pm -- this is a school bus loading zone.
Kindergarten students have their own fenced yard by Doors 7A & 7B, supervised during the arrival and dismissal times. Accompany your child to the yard so that they can safely be accounted for by the teacher or supervisor. Please keep the gates to the Kindergarten Yard closed. Parents, younger siblings, pets and strollers are kindly asked to wait outside the fence.
A reusable water bottle
A healthy lunch and snacks -- see also below.
Two pairs of shoes for school: indoor and outdoor
Extra clothing to be stored at school (pants, shirt, undies, socks)
Appropriate clothing for outdoor play in any weather
A backpack big enough to fit library books, art projects, lunch, extra clothes...
You do NOT need to provide
It's a good idea to label everything! You can support the school by buying labels via Mabel's Labels - choose "Second Street JMS (Toronto)".
The school operates a snack program, which means that if you opt-in, your child will receive snacks from the school. The program does not start until several weeks into the year, so make sure to pack snacks as well as lunch until it starts. The snack program operates by grants and donations, please consider donating if you can.
Packing lunch and snacks for the first time? Check out this guide for ideas! Remember, no peanuts or other nuts are allowed -- check that your granola bars, cookies, etc do not contain nuts, nut butters or Nutella.
If you wish to purchase lunch for your child, SAC operates two paid lunch offerings, Lunchbox (every Wednesday) and Pizza Day (every second Tuesday). The school also operates another paid lunch offering every Friday: Lunch Lady. Buying from any of these also raises funds for the school.
Looking for before-and-after care? See below for a list of places that have offered drop-off and pick-up from the school now or in the past. These are not affiliated with the school and this list is not an endorsement. Please contact them directly for space inquiries and other questions.
