SAC Sub-Committees

Consider volunteering in committee leadership or at various SAC events!

The School Advisory Council determines which committees are needed each year.  These sub-committees are the “working groups” of our school council, the potential of which is limited only by your energy and enthusiasm. With an extended roster of committees to meet the diverse interests and talents of our school community, we hope you will find something that catches your eye!

Please join us in enriching our children’s educational experience at Second Street Junior Middle School.

HOW TO JOIN A COMMITTEE: Contact the committee chair or send an e-mail to info@secondstsac.com

Fundraising

The purpose of this committee of parent volunteers is to present fun, social events and raise funds for materials and programs that directly benefit all students. Thanks to the incredible support of the Second Street JMS community, events including Pizza Days, Cookie Dough and Book Sales, we helped raise money for the school and allowed our kids to have lots of fun.  In past years, funds raised were used to purchase hard goods such as technology and classroom resources, but they also provide for arts and STEM presentations during the school day. There are several ‘fun-raising’ activities throughout the school year that allow all students to participate.

Budget

Chaired by the Treasurer, this committee decides how funds raised by the SAC are spent.

Communications and Engagement

The purpose of this committee is to communicate about activities at Second St. JMS including email and website communications, and contribute to a positive school climate where students, staff, parents and other stakeholders work together to ensure we nurture and respect the unique needs of Second Street JMS students and their families. Ensuring communications will also support parent engagement and enrich student success.

Garden & Outdoor Education

The purpose of this committee is to create outdoor spaces that can be actively used by the school, teach our students about gardening and being stewards of our natural environment, and building upon our wonderful green space areas. Previous initiatives have included the creation and on-going expansion of the school's garden spaces with native and pollinator friendly plants, class seed growing initiatives, bee lantern workshop and yearly seed/bulb/planting days.
